Welcome to the Basic French Website. I will post information concerning major projects, tests and exams as the dates become available.
Please note that the majority of work takes place in the classroom for the Basic French course, so do not expect very much homework, if any at all!
Current Topics in the French Classroom (updated: September 2010)
Grade 8 - food
Grade 9 - youth activities
Grade 10 - family and friends
Grade 12 - stress
Grade 8 French: Students are currently studying a food unit. We are learning and reviewing some basic vocabulary that relates to food, reviewing the present tense of verbs, and learning how to create and pronounce basic sentences in French. Students will produce and present restaurant menus and skits, and will create advertisements for a new and exciting menu revolving around ice cream.
Grade 10 French: The current unit is Family and Friends. Students have just finished creating a family tree, complete with a write up, which will be presented to the class. We are reviewing and learning new vocabulary to describe family members and friends, and are reviewing how to make and answer questions in French.
Grade 12 French: Students started the year by writing an essay about their summer vacations. These essays were presented orally. The unit we are studying right now is about Stess - how it affects our lives, symptoms it causes and how we deal with it. Students will be talking about stress in their lives, and in particular, stress at school. They will create a list of ways to relieve stress at school and present it to the class, and will write an essay on stress and read it aloud to the class to end the unit.
